The new addition

We had our first ultrasound today-it was soo exciting. The coolest part, by far for me, was looking at the heart beating and seeing all four chambers. The baby is growing fine and the tech said that it looks healthy. Also, we can finally put a pronoun to the baby. It's kind of weird knowing what the sex is because we've just been calling it "baby" for so long that it having a real name is a little hard to get used to. I'll let you figure it out for yourself.

That's right, it's a boy!!! By the time he is born, he will even out the number of boys and girls. The way the tech described the picture above is the baby is sitting on a glass table and we are looking up-if that helps you orient yourself. And my due date stayed the same, so far. So around January 27, 2008 we will welcome little Noah Orin Peterson into the family. YIPEE!!! I'm confused

What does Hillary mean about the Harvey hairstyle survey? Anyway, I thought you might be interested to know that Jim started one of his college classes last night. It's a C++ class that he already took 2 years ago in high school, but at least he should do well in it. Tonight he starts a Calculus 3 class, that one should give him a challenge. We weren't expecting to have to pay over $200 for books for him quite this soon. Oh, well. He doesn't start high school until next Tuesday. I guess Schoolcraft doesn't have to wait until after Labor Day, like the public schools.
It's supposed to be a beautiful Labor Day weekend here. I hope you all enjoy it wherever you are. The Northville Ward is having a birthday party on Saturday. It was 5 years ago on September 1 that they organized the Northville Ward. My how time flies. Other than go to the party, we don't have any big plans for the weekend.
I called Loren and told him that we won't be coming for Thanksgiving. Now you can all come here if you want (sorry Kari). We think we'll have to buy a mattress to go on the bed frame Kurt brought back, if we're going to have a bunch of people here. Just when you think can down size, they all come back at once.

Thesis Done!

I've been waiting and waiting to get to post this. After valiant struggles and using machetes to cut through red tape, my thesis is finally done. The last month or so reads like a Marx Brothers script of missteps and follies but I officially have collected all of my signatures and am set to graduate. Kurt and I both have a few extra gray hairs and are extremely relieved to have this behind us. Now on to bigger and better things.

We are sad at the Hicks' home

We had some bad news today. A stray cat that adopted our family had kittens at our house about 5 weeks ago. Her name is Princess Fluffy. Her kittens, all boys, were named Hissy, Thumbs, Shy, and Blacky. We took them all out to Charlie's parents' house on Wednesday before we left for our Wisconsin family trip. We felt like they would have a better life out on the farm. We left Meg there as well. When we went back to pick up Meg today we found out that two of the kittens had been killed. The dogs had done it. Charlie's parents don't know if it was Meg or their dog, Sadie. Of course it had to be the two favorite kittens, Hissy and Thumbs. To top it off, my kids had to watch Sadie chew on Hissy's dead body. Needless to say, they are all a bit traumatized (so am I to tell you the truth). Merrit came and got me and I went out and scared Sadie off and then helped the kids bury Hissy. We made a nice little grave for him. I feel awful, like it's my fault because we took them out there when maybe we should've left them here. I hope my kids will be able to get on O.K. soon. It breaks my heart to watch them be so sad.

Our trip wasn't all that great. We found out that the house we were trying to buy has been temporarily taken off the market. The brakes on our van went out so we had to repair them while we were there (that has its own miserable story itself). Charlie had to work two of the three days we were there and the room we stayed in wasn't as big as we thought it was going to be so we were all pretty squashed. It could've been a lot better, but I guess it could've been a lot worse too.

So because our house fell through, Charlie and I decided to rent for a little while until we find a house we want to buy. We thought it made more sense than trying to rush into buying a house that we aren't that happy with just so we can have a house. So Charlie will spend this next week looking for a place for us to rent. We are hoping he'll find one so we can pack when he comes home this weekend. Then hopefully we'll be able to move sometime next week. It will kind of happen in a whirl-wind, but it'll be nice to be living together, as a family. We'll probably just move the stuff we have in the house at first and not worry about the storage unit stuff until later. We hope that we enable us to move more quickly. Whatever happens, moving will not be fun, it never is!

Well, I hope all of you had a better Sunday than we did.

We stopped at a place in Kansas called Prairie Dog Town to see a 5 legged cow and 6 legged cow. The 5 legged cow is the black one with the extra leg coming out of its neck. The brown one had its two extra legs coming out of its rear end. Click on the picture to blow it up larger and see it up close. Prairie Dog Town was hilarious, well worth the $6.95 admission fee!

This was part of the Henry Ford Museum's exhibit of Cars and Guitars of famous rockers. Don't they look real?

Dad really did fall asleep in the museum while Eric and I made our own cars to race from Kinex-is that how you spell that? It's how it sounds.

And this car is just in the museum, but it broke the sound barrier at the salt flats in Utah.

Also, we have the date of our ultrasound set-next Thursday the 30th at 2:30. We went in yesterday and heard the baby's heart again and I was relieved that it's still alive. But we had an awesome time in Michigan so thanks to all of you who hung out with us and thanks Mom and Dad for letting us stay in your house and eat your food and go up north with you. And it's good to hear that things are going well for Hillary-well, kind of, I guess :) But we are happy to know that Jana and Jason made it safe and finally have the internet in their house. We'll update next week and let you guys know what they say, and hopefully post ultrasound pictures. YIPEE!

WE MADE IT!

Jason, Addie and I made it to Tennessee yesterday afternoon. After a long road trip, it was nice to get here. Colorado was beautiful and it poured rain all through Oklahoma. If you've been watching the news lately, the eastern part of Oklahoma basically flooded, so we were lucky to get out of there in time! We are also very grateful that his parents were able to come with us. It has made the move so much easier.

Our apartment is much much bigger, has new carpet, and is nice overall. The layout is kind of strange and the kitchen is in need of updating, but we're happy to be here. TN is gorgeous. I forgot how green it is! It's VERY hot, supposedly 12 people have died this month in the Memphis area because of the heat, so we're being careful to stay indoors with the air conditioning. Oh yeah, and it's WONDERFUL to have the internet again!

Hillary, I'm so excited for your family! It will be nice to still be close enough to go home when you want. Jason and I really enjoyed that back in Utah. With his parents in Idaho, it was nice to pick up and go for an extended weekend without a problem. I certainly hope y'all (trying to apply the Southern drawl) will hear about the house soon and that Charlie will have a place to stay after this weekend.

Heather and Kurt, I completely forgot to thank you for your gift for Addie! It was very appreciated. In fact, she's wearing the onesie you bought her today and it is adorable. And thanks for the gift card, as well. I hope you both are doing well as you prepare for Harvey's arrival. Might I suggest the same kind of onesie you bought us--the kind that button up the front. Anything to avoid pulling over the head is a good idea!

Adelyn is doing great! She smiles at us now and it is adorable. Her smiles make all the effort so worth it! She has a very sensitive stomach and I've had to go off all dairy so she doesn't get so many tummy aches. It has helped quite a bit, which has been nice. It's horrible to hear her scream, so the sacrifice is worth it (but still hard!).

We're about to take Jason's parents for a good ole Tennessee BBQ, so I'll write more later. I'll post some pictures when our stuff gets here in the next few days, we packed away our camera cord. Dang. It's great to be connected again!

Charlie starts his new job this week

We are still trying to buy that house in Racine. We haven't heard from the bank yet if they have accepted or rejected our offer. We think we might just go ahead and offer them full price for the house so we can just get the process going. If this falls through, we have looked at a couple of places we could rent until we find a different house to buy. Both Charlie and I don't want to live separately for too long again. This time the commute isn't as nice, and he won't be able to stay with family again. Charlie called the bishop of the Racine ward and asked him if he could find someone in the ward that Charlie could stay with for a week or two, just until we find something more permanent. He hasn't gotten back to us yet. I suppose Charlie could always stay in a rent by the week, cheap motel if he has to. We've even considered having him sleep in his classroom and showering in the locker room, but I highly doubt that could happen. The kids are getting excited to move. They seem excited to see what their new school will be like. I hope they like the new school.

We are going to Wisconsin this week for a little family trip. Charlie's first day is this Thursday and he suggested we all go over and stay with him in a hotel. So we plan on leaving Wednesday afternoon and staying until Saturday morning. He'll have to go back Sunday afternoon, so we hope to have some where for him to go to by then. We're going to bumb around Racine for the couple of days we are there and see what the city has to offer. The kids are excited to stay in the hotel. We made sure it had a pool. They are excited to swim.

The house is just about finished. We are still waiting to see if the lady from church still wants it and what exactly needs to happen for her to buy it. But she seems pretty excited about it, so this house should be sold in not the too distant future. I will be glad to be away from this house. It has really been an interesting experience living here and fixing it up.

Well, I hope all is well with everyone else. I hope Jana and Jason are settling in well, that Kari and Eric got home safe, that Kurt and Heather are getting their house ready for Harvey's arrival, and that Mom and Dad are enjoying having their house back to themselves. Someone needs to write something soon.

We're moving to Racine, Wi

Just wanted to let you know that Charlie was offered a job at a high school in Racine, Wi and he is going to accept it. His first day is Aug. 23, but the family probably won't move until the beginning of Sept. We have the paperwork started to purchase a home only about 1/2 mile from the school Charlie will be teaching at. The purchase agreement should go in today if our mortgage guy gets the pre-approval letter in on time. It's all kind of a whirl wind situation but it looks like it will work out well for our family. The lady from our ward who wants to buy the house we are in will have her grant dispursement on Tuesday next week. That means she can buy the house and move in as soon as we get out. Things are kind of falling into place. I feel really blessed. I'll write more later, I really need to go and do some painting. We are in a mad dash to finish the work we have left on this house. Thanks for all your prayers.

Finally, a post

I went out to lunch with my friend today at BYU and stopped in a computer lab. Yay! Finally, a new post from the Hairs. I'm sorry my husblond is not keeping you as up-to-date as I would like. We'll work on that.

Adelyn is doing great. She is getting bigger, spits up A LOT, and is growing strong neck muscles. She loves to look all around (which makes burping her that much more interesting) and we are eagerly awaiting the time when she'll give us her first intentional smile. She's such a miracle and we love being parents.

Jason is spending a lot of time finalizing the plans for our big move. We have the truck booked, apartment rented, help recruited, and now all we have to do is start packing boxes. You all know how small our apartment is, so we don't anticipate that taking us more than 3 or 4 good days of effort, but it is, by far, the least exciting part of moving. Ick. I'm not looking forward to the actual move, but it will be fun to be in Tennesse starting our new adventure. Hopefully I'll make friends quickly.

Wow, I don't type nearly as fast as I used to. It's amazing how much slower I've become after only a month being away...

I'm enjoying being a mom, for the most part. I love Adelyn, and am reminded daily how much love Heavenly Father has for us through her. I DON'T love, however, the NIGHTS. Every night, around 10, I get this sense of foreboding-- another long night ahead of me. I can't wait until she starts sleeping longer at night, and hopefully that will be sooner rather than later! Another thing which has been hard is staying home. It's hard to go from working and talking to people all day long to...well...watching Law & Order and reading Harry Potter. I like those things, but enjoy human interaction more. It will take some getting used to. I'll have to get up the energy to work on calligraphy and my other hobbies.

That's about it for the Hair family. It's been great reading about how you all are doing. I hope Heather and Kari continue to feel well and that the Hicks find a job soon. And the count down has begun, only 20 more days until we have the internet...wahoo!
